Camp Description:
Camp Horizons is a residential summer camping program for children and adults who are mentally handicapped. Facilities include inground heated pool, Gymnasium with full basketball court & stage and game room as well as a state of the art program center housing fitness, hobby and media centers. Activities include horseback riding, swimming, boating, arts and crafts, music, pioneering and more. A 5:1 camper-counselor ratio, plus program instructors and staff, allows us to work closely with each camper to provide individualized attention to his or her special areas of need, including maintenance of academic skills, socialization, personal hygiene, independence, and development of leisure time skills. Campers attend three programs in the morning and four in the afternoon, with evening activities occuring for the entire camp including campfires, talent shows, movies, field games and music. Our philosophy at Camp Horizons is based around positive programming emphasizing what our campers can do, promoting self-esteem and supporting them as they grow.
