Camp Description:
Camp Kodiak is an integrated, non-competitive camp serving children & teens with and without ADHD, LD, NLD & Asperger Syndrome. Campers come from all over North America and from abroad.Camp Kodiak programs for success! All sports and activities are taught in an organized, step-by-step fashion to ensure success. We emphasize cooperation rather that competition. There are over 50 sports, crafts, cultural and educational activities so that all of our campers can find several different activities at which they can excel. Our staff members never miss the opportunity to recognize and celebrate these successes. CAMP KODIAK HIGHLIGHTS: - social skills program - academic program - 2-to-1 camper-to-staff ratio - over 50 sports and activities - safe, nurturing environment - structured, non-competitive program - mature, professional staff - doctor and 3 nurses on site - comfortable lakefront cabins with electricity, bathrooms & showers - 425 acres - 2 ½ miles of lakefront - extensive indoor and outdoor facilities - free airport service - free transportation to camp from Toronto Monday to Friday, right after breakfast, everyone in camp has an hour of academic instruction. There are two components to the academic program, Option 1 and Option 2. Parents select their camper’s academic program prior to their arrival at camp. Campers in Option 1 receive academic tutoring. Campers in Option 2 receive instruction in an educational activity such as music, drama, dance, gymnastics, pottery, photography, computers, etc. An important reason for the success of our program is our staff. Almost one half of our counselors are certified professionals from the fields of education, psychology, social work and recreation. Every cabin has at least three counselors. One or two are professionals. The remaining staff are university students, most of whom are working towards a career in one of the helping professions. The camper-to-staff ratio is 2-to-1. All of our staff undergo a rigorous training period before the campers arrive All of our counselors go through a police background check. We have a doctor and three nurses on staff. They live on-site, administer all medication and are available 24 hours a day in case of an emergency. The hospital in Parry Sound is 25 minutes away. Please visit our web site at www.campkodiak.com for more information on our program.
