Camp Description:
Camp Louise is a traditional Girl Scout camp offering a huge array of program opportunities. Our ACA accredited camp is situated on 340 acres of scenic woods, offers great natural diversity including a 25-acre lake, hiking trails and walking paths, and many species of wildlife. Facilities include a dining hall, modern swimming pool, program building, health center, trading post, central shower and washhouses. Campers sleep on cots with mattresses in spacious platform tents. Each unit has a covered shelter, outdoor cooking facilities, a fire circle, and bathroom facilities with running water and clivus multrum self-composting or flush toilets.

GENERAL LIVING
Resident camping is overnight camping with other girls under the careful supervision of trained camp counselors. Girls will reside in platform tents, sleeping on cots with mattresses, in an outdoor setting. Each tent sleeps up to four girls. Staff will stay in tents centrally located to the girls.

Well-balanced meals are prepared in the modern kitchen and served family style in a spacious dining hall. Periodic cookouts, planned and prepared by staff and campers, will replace some of the dining hall meals.

ACCREDITATION
Camp Louise is fully accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA). Developed exclusively for the camp industry, this nationally recognized organization focuses on program quality and health and safety issues. It requires us to review every facet of our operation. Camp Louise has voluntarily submitted to this independent appraisal done by camp experts and has earned this mark of distinction. Camp Louise also complies with the standards of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as well as those of Girl Scouts of the USA.

CAMPERS
Camp Louise is for EVERY GIRL, EVERYWHERE, both members and non-members, regardless of race, color, or national origin. Please see specific program information for age requirements.

SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS
If your camper requires a special diet, special health care, has a mental or physical challenge or other condition, you should contact the Outdoor Program/Property Manager or Seasonal Camp Director prior to registering. At that time you can discuss the program and the nature of your child’s special need to determine if the camp can provide the support, supervision, and necessary accommodations for a safe and fulfilling camp experience. Handicapped accessible living areas are available.

HEALTH AND SAFETY
Resident campers are covered by a health and accident insurance policy covering accidents or illness occurring during camp sessions. This insurance is secondary to the camper’s personal insurance coverage, and does not cover treatment of a pre-existing medical condition.

The Resident Camp Director and Assistant Director reside on the camp premises during resident camp season to oversee the safety of both campers and staff. In addition, there is a trained Health Supervisor who oversees first aid and medications, a local doctor who is on call, plus staff trained in Community First Aid and CPR.

· As at all times, but especially during Check-In and Check-Out, safety and security are primary concerns. For this reason, all parents and guardians need to realize that procedures MUST be followed. Procedures include adhering to arrival and departure times, not bringing pets, and presenting photo id to pick campers up.

· Girl Scouts of Penn's Woods Council requires that every camper have an ANNUAL health exam performed by a licensed physician. A Health History and Examination Form will be sent in your camper packet. If you need to have the form ahead of time, please contact the Penn’s Woods Council Service Center. All health history information must be current within two months of the girls’ arrival to camp.

· All campers are screened on check-in day. Anyone having a condition that is considered contagious by a physician i.e. chickenpox or head lice, may not participate in resident camp activities. We reserve the right to send home any camper who becomes ill during her session.

· If there are religious objections to physical examinations or immunizations, the participant must submit a written statement signed by the parent/legal guardian to the effect that the individual’s health status allows her to participate in the event with or without reasonable accommodation. An official of the religious group must also sign this statement for verification of membership with the religious group.

STAFF
The Administrative Staff and Counselors are carefully selected and trained in a variety of areas such as First Aid, CPR, basic boating and water safety, emergency guidelines, health and safety procedures, and camp programming. Our resident camp programs are presented with professionalism under the guidance and supervision of well-trained, caring adults. Programs maintain a girl/adult ratio appropriate to the age of the girl: Brownie Girl Scouts (grades 1 – 3), 6 girls per adult; Junior Girl Scouts (grades 4 – 6), 8 girls per adult; and Cadette/Senior Girl Scouts (grades 7 – 12), 10 girls per adult. Certified lifeguards supervise all swimming and boating programs.

TRADING POST
Patches, T-shirts, sweatshirts, souvenir items, stationery, stamps, and toilet articles are sold in the Trading Post. During Resident Camp, unit pictures of the girls and their counselors may also be purchased at a price of $5.50. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) deposit money during the check-in process for girls to use during their stay at camp. During the checkout process, parent(s)/guardian(s) receive an accounting of purchases and any remaining balance is refunded.

PROGRAM
All Resident camp programs include opportunities for girls to participate in general camping activities such as swimming, boating, arts and crafts, nature activities, cookouts, hiking and games. Otherwise, camper activities follow the special program theme for which she registers. For their safety, girls will be tested for swimming ability and placed in the program accordingly. Activities with the entire camp will also be featured each week. Some programs may involve field trips off camp property.

Camp is a great place for girls to grow strong. Girls are provided with opportunities to learn about themselves and others, build self-confidence, and develop interpersonal and outdoor skills.

Sessions vary in length from three days and up. You may select one or more sessions. If a girl does not meet the prerequisite for a program, or the program is beyond her skill level, she will be placed in a more appropriate program unit. Note! Girls participating in multi-week programs will go home at the end of each week.

All girls will share in the responsibility of unit duties, known as kapers. This includes general clean up of camp, tents and living areas, bathhouse, dining hall, and hosting Flag Ceremony.

GIRL SCOUT AWARDS
“Badger Programs” are designed for girls interested in completing Try-Its, Badges, Interest Project or Patch requirements. A Badger Program is indicated by a (insert badger symbol) symbol next to the program title. Recognitions are included and will be given out at the Trading Post during the checkout process. All other programs will concentrate on the program topic and not necessarily Girl Scout award requirements with participants earning a participation patch.

BUDDIES
Camp is a terrific place to make new friends. Yet, it is also possible for a girl to camp with a friend from home. Girls wishing to tent together may do so by indicating their friend’s name on the registration form. Buddies must sign up for the same program and session to be assigned to the same tent. Only list one buddy and make sure buddies list each other.

NON-GIRL SCOUTS AND OUT-OF-COUNCIL GIRL SCOUTS
· Non-Girl Scouts may attend Camp Louise for the cost of the program plus an additional fee of $60.00 per program ($30.00 for Mini-Camp), which includes registration as a member of Girl Scouts of the USA through September 2005.
· Out-of-Council Girl Scouts (Girl Scouts not registered with Penn’s Woods Council) may attend Camp Louise for the cost of the program plus an additional fee of $35.00 per program ($15.00 for Mini-Camp).
