Camp Description:
Founded as an outreach program of The University of Texas School of Music in 1979, the Longhorn Music Camp is now one of the premier summer music programs in Texas. Annually the camp attracts over 900 youth, ages 11-18, from around the state and the nation. It is our goal to increase the love of the musical arts by nurturing musicianship and artistic growth, while encouraging continuing education by providing an exciting and rewarding camp experience to both the campers and their families.Programs accommodate musicians ranging from the most talented and proficient to the less experienced, with a minimum of one year of training on their chosen instrument or voice. Whatever the level of proficiency, all LMC campers find new challenges and opportunities and will advance in their ability. Highlights of the day include participation in full ensembles, master classes, sectionals, classroom electives, chamber music, individualized private instruction, and recreational activities. All camps culminate with a student performance in Bates Recital Hall.
