Camp Description:
For over 30 years, SOAR's wilderness adventure programs have provided youth, ages 8 to 18 diagnosed with LD and/or AD/HD, the opportunity to build self-confidence, develop social skills, and work on leadership and communication skills, while enjoying the challenges of our wilderness areas. We provide a low student to staff ratio. Activities include backpacking, horsepacking, llama treks, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, SCUBA diving, surfing, fishing, snorkeling, etc.Summer expeditions range from two to four weeks in length. Shorter adventures of three to six days are planned for the spring, fall and winter. Semester-length courses are available in the spring and fall. The out-of-doors provides an ideal classroom where relevant learning can occur and critical life skills can be taught. Course locations include: North Carolina, Florida Keys, Wyoming, California, Costa Rica and Peru. In recognizing the uniqueness of each human being, and the variety of interests each student brings to SOAR, we offer a rich range of advenutre programs. Activities and course sites range from snorkeling and kayaking in the Florida Keys; backpacking and whitewater rafting in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina; surfing and sea kayaking along the califonia coast; and horsepacking and fishing in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming. This incredible array of activities and sites gives SOAR students many options from which to choose, and allows them to match their interests with specific courses.
