Camp Description:
Trail Blazers' program seeks to teach children from inner-city backgrounds the value of a work ethic, peaceful conflict resolution, resource conservation, and personal wellness habits while building self-control and self-reliance. Our children gain these skills by working and living together in a primitive camp setting. Trail Blazers stresses activities that encourage individual challenge and growth instead of traditional competitive sports. Learning takes place without the stress of possible failure because activities are based on a non-competitive philosophy. The group leaders work closely with their groups to recognize improvement and reward both small and large accomplishments. Trail Blazers also believes that affecting significant change in a child's life requires intensive and continual contact for at least a three year period, and thus makes a commitment to work with each child for at least three years, often much longer.
