Camp Description:
One week, one experience, one smile that can last exactly one lifetime. Sportrock knows the value of a smile at the end of a day. It's a small reminder of why we teach kids climbing. It's because learning to climb is fun for us and them. Our summer camp doesn't set out to make kids all star rock climbers; it instead gives kids a way to solve problems, make good decisions, act a team players, learn respect for others, enjoy the outdoor surroundings and do something healthy for their growing bodies. Our five day curriculum introduces children to rock climbing in the outdoor realm. This means that we teach children not only the fundamental skills involved in learning to climb outdoors, but also what makes climbing outdoor rock so exciting. Campers in our program experience real rock from the surrounding area, learning to climb on it, about how it got there and how to preserve it for future generations. We visit national landmarks along the Potomac River including the C&O Canal, Carderock Outdoor Recreation Area and Great Falls National Park in Virginia. Our instructors are all certified through the American Mountian Guides Association as Top Rope Site Managers. They also have at a minimum standard first aid and cpr from a nationally recognized authority. These certifications are your assurance of a quality and safe program. At this time there are only approxamately 250 instructor/guides with the Top Rope Site Managers certification in the United States.
