Camp Description:
Highbrook Lodge, operated by the Cleveland Sight Center since 1928 offers separate programs for children, families, and adults who are living with vision impairments or blindness. Children programs include sessions for 8-11 years old, 12-14 year old, 13-15 and teens 15-18. By including friends and siblings, Highbrook’s children’s camp sessions offer an inclusive, mainstreamed setting.

Join us for traditional camp activities that include arts and crafts, nature and outdoor activities, swimming, sports and recreation and lots of special events. Independence and self-sufficiency are encouraged as campers participate in camper council, planning the annual talent show and banquet nights, camp outs under the stars, and cabin clean-up. Special guests and programs have included adventure activities, the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame, bands, orchestras, artists, and poets. Campers have field trip options to horse riding stables, fishing, nature centers and other area attractions. Children at Highbrook participate in a structured, busy activity day. 24 hour supervision and attention from trained staff offer first-time and returning campers alike a memorable camp experience. Families and adults have different options available with the special needs of the child or adult who is blind or visually impaired met with adaptions and know how of the staff.

Facilities include 4 dormitory cabins and 2 cabins with semi-private rooms, a heated outdoor swimming pool, Roberts Recreation Field, playgrounds, guided wooded trails, Smith Lodge, Sears Recreation Hall, and the Grasselli outdoor chapel. In 2003 we opened our new Wolf Arts and Nature Center, and are in the fourth year of an upgrade of facilities.

Highbrook Lodge is accredited by the American Camping Association which sets standards for facility, program, and operations.

We offer great summer employment opportunities for adults 18 and over, teachers off for the summer, or future professional seeking field experience. Highbrook staff may apply for our exclusive scholarship program in addition to a summer salary.
