Camp Description:
The IUPUI Music Academy, an independently operated community music school under the auspices of the Indiana University School of Music at IUPUI, was established in 1996 as an outreach program for the communities surrounding the IUPUI campus. Currently, with the aid of 21 teachers, the Academy enrolls over 300 students each semester at four locations as we continue to pursue our three-fold mission:To provide the highest quality of music instruction to all interested persons, ages 18 months to adult; To provide exposure to and participation in the performing arts, regardless of age, race, religion, ethnic origin, financial means or level of ability; and To foster and promote broad access to high quality arts education designed to meet community needs. The Academy offers a variety of music classes for children ages 18 months to 12 years of age. These classes, which are part of our Harmony Road curriculum, incorporate singing, creative movement, listening, and playing instruments. Children ages 7-12 can also participate in a music keyboard-oriented class that incorporates computer-based instruction. Classes offered for adults include beginning piano, jazz piano, music fundamentals (theory), and an improvisation workshop. Private lessons are available for all ages and levels of ability in piano (classical and jazz), guitar (all styles), voice, saxophone, and most orchestral instruments.
