Camp Description:
Often the kid with diabetes feels alone - not at Camp Hertko Hollow! Performing fingerstick blood tests, taking insulin injections, and counting carbohydrates are part of a normal day's activities. But most important - the kids have fun at camp with the many recreational activities and special events, such as a Casino night, carnival, 4th of July fireworks, talent show, dance, and a night visit from Aunt Fifi, the good camp witch. Physicians, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, diabetes counselors, and health field students volunteer their time to create a safe environment and to provide spontaneous diabetes education. Two sessions are available: Session A for Elementary age campers, Session B for Middle & High School age campers. A 3 day Mini-Camp is available during Session A for 6-8 yr olds Camper applications are due May 31st. Financial aid is available.
