Camp Description:
Camp Valaqua is a Christian Children’s Camp supported by Mennonite Churches in Alberta. For more than 40 years, Camp Valaqua has been providing a place where campers can experience God through worship, recreation, and interaction with others in a natural setting. Camp activities are geared to promote fun, challenge and co-operation so that campers may grow in their physical, mental, social and spiritual lives. Through the leadership of committed Christian staff and volunteers, campers are encouraged to recognise God’s presence in their own lives, in their relationships with others, and within God’s creation. Camp Valaqua is dedicated to “proclaiming the Good News that God is the Creator, we are God’s people, and the earth is placed in our hands as a gift and a trust.”Camp Valaqua is located 1 hour NW of Calgary near Water Valley Alberta, beautifully situated in the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains on the Little Red Deer River. The 250 acres of spruce and poplar forest offer extensive hiking, mountain biking and nature study trails. Facilities include a modern lodge with washrooms and showers, 12 rustic cabins, recreation hall, climbing wall, ball diamond and nature centre. The summer program at Camp Valaqua offers a variety of exciting possibilities for all ages. Week-long Residential Camps are available for ages 8-16 during July and August. Activities include wall climbing, canoeing, swimming, games, crafts, nature studies, campfires, archery, model rocketry and overnight camp outs. Teen Camps also include the excitement of mountain biking, basketball skills training and a day-hike in the mountains. For campers interested in a wilderness experience, Outbound Camps are the way to go! Guided by certified and experienced staff, these week-long camps consist of canoeing, mountain biking and hiking trips into some of the finest natural areas Alberta has to offer. A weekend Family Camp is offered each year in early July for 3-8 year olds and their parent/ guardian(s). Experience an opportunity to relax and have fun together through games, activities, a talent show and more! Camp Valaqua staff are fully trained and dedicated to providing a safe, caring and fun-filled experience for all campers.
