The teachers are young, vibrant, and approachable. They feel equally comfortable discussing Western literature or art history, debating contemporary music, or playing basketball. Throughout their days, students are encouraged to take advantage of Madeira's exceptional facilities, beautiful natural environment and unique proximity to Washington, D.C. Coursework features academic field trips to Washington DC as well.

For all the academic instruction, structured and unstructured activities, and camaraderie our staff provides, the heart of the Girls First experience is the amazing opportunity for growth provided by the girls themselves. Talented young women are appreciated and challenged by a like-minded, friendly, diverse peer group. Outside of the classroom, girls make meaningful and enduring connections while participating in guided activities and spending free time with new friends. Girls First is an invaluable chance for young women to experience a new place, develop close friendships, and learn from committed mentors.
