Camp Description:
Taking The Road Less Traveled is — the adrenaline rush you get from running a class III rapid in a canyon so deep you can’t see the tops of the rock walls; the rainbow scintillating through the spray of a waterfall we just happened to stumble upon; the shadow a mountain casts on the world below at sunrise... It is shouting out your order for a kilo of tomatoes in a noisy street market in Sevilla or being invited into a monk’s quarters for tea in a small Northern Indian monastery. It’s paddling a boat filled with sand and small rocks to make cement on a remote beach in the San Blas Islands... The Road Less Traveled is removing ourselves from the familiar spaces we know too well, and venturing into places that inspire us not only to explore our surroundings, but also ourselves. The Road Less Traveled is making new friends while opening our minds to new sites, new sounds, new experiences… It is finding a place — a sand dune, a river — so magnificent that you couldn’t ever have imagined it… It’s being captivated by a world and people you never knew existed… Taking The Road Less Traveled is empowering, invigorating, exciting… We have been educating youth to believe in themselves and their individual and collective abilities to shape the future for more than 15 years. We do this by leading young men and women ages 13 to 19 on challenging, stimulating, mind-and-soul expanding journeys. Our values are simple: get out there, to the far places; learn new skills; welcome surprise; work together… We find that the best views follow the most exciting adventures and that the most vivid memories are made from trying new things. Staff/Group size: Each expedition is limited to ten to twenty-one participants and managed by two to three adult leaders. Leaders are genuine, friendly, athletic, well-educated and well-traveled. All are college degreed with CPR and Wilderness First Responder or EMT certification.
