More than just a summer camp...it’s a summer EXPERIENCE!

All of Westover’s Summer Sessions are fully residential, designed to give every camper the experience of enriching programs during the day and a wonderful camp experiences in the afternoons and evenings.

After a full day of the arts, athletics, or academics, our campers make the most of their time with us with exciting afternoon and evening programs. Activities include swimming, lake front activities, arts and crafts, and more! Campers are assigned dorm rooms, roommates, and dorm parents... What a wonderful way to experience all that Westover’ssummer programs have to offer!

Westover's Summer Sessions set the stage for a well-supervised away-from -home adventure. Make new friends!Spend the evening around the bonfire eating s’mores, take part in talent shows, try a new craft, and don’t forget a fun filled evening at a local amusement park!
Your tuition to camp includes all activities, arts and crafts, supplies for your classes, and all of your meals. Come for one week, or stay for two!

All courses are taught by Westover teachers, assisted by Westover graduates and current Westover students.

DRAMA (offered both sessions)
Summer DRAMA will include instruction from professional actress/director Marla Truini, the Director of Westover’s Drama program. Girls enrolled in the Summer Drama camp can expect instruction in Basic and Intermediate Acting Technique, perfect for girls who want to learn more about the theatre.
Students will learn basic acting and vocal technique, stage fighting, theatrical make-up, costuming and set-building. Each session will include theatre games and improvisation which strengthen concentration and stage presence. The week will culminate in a festival of one-act plays and demonstrations. Come join the fun!

DANCE (offered both sessions)
Join us for an experience that is a fusion of essential dance elements, rhythmic adventures and current world issues. Learn how dance can be a barometer of our current global climate and how this artistic medium can communicate in ways no other form can.
This summer session will incorporate dance techniques and improvisational and compositional exercises. Each student will have the opportunity to compose and/or dance in a culminating demonstration. Please wear comfortable, form fitting, monochromatic clothing and get ready to dance, dance, dance!

PHOTOGRAPHY (offered both sessions)
Attention shutter bugs! Study photography in Westover’s state-of-the art photography studio. A must for any girl with a developing interest in the art of photography, students will learn the basics of photography using a 35mm camera. They will explore such topics as exposure, lighting, and composition, as well as develop their own black & white film in the lab and print in the darkroom. They should bring a manual 35mm camera, although the school does have cameras to borrow if necessary. The week will culminate in their very own gallery show!

PAINTING (offered both sessions)
This Painting class is an intense introduction to the use of oil based media in painting from observation. Students will learn proper craft in preparation of canvas, panel and paper and in the use of oil paint itself. Students will learn to create form through value with a limited palette of black and white paint. Color theory will then be introduced as will a primary-color palette. Students will learn to create all color and value with three primary colors plus black and white. Students will learn through lecture, demonstration and hands-on work. The use of a grid to aid in observation will be introduced. Our primary focus will be the creation of correct color/value relationships within generally correct shapes. This will allow students with limited drawing experience to successfully paint from observation, relying on color and value to convincingly depict the visible world.

Women in Science and Engineering (W.I.S.E)

CREATIVE WRITING (offered Session I only)
Words, words, words! Do you love words and putting words together in poems or stories or plays? If you do, you will love this class devoted to creative writing. Spend a week crafting your own book: a collection of stories, a short story, or a play. In addition, you will make a beautiful binding for your creative writing. We will also make a notebook of ideas and helpful hints for creative writing as well as quotations from some of your favorite authors and poets.

Model UN (United Nations) (offered Session II only)
Summer Model United Nations introduces girls to how the United Nations works to address issues of global concern. Girls enrolled in the Model UN Program will work with Westover faculty members and students to research a current issue (for example, child labor or the rebuilding of post-war Afghanistan) and study the perspective of various nations on that issue. Part of our research will include a trip to New York City to visit the United Nations. With some coaching on public speaking and training on how to write position papers and a UN Resolution, our week together will conclude with a spirited Security Council debate on the issue. This program is a terrific opportunity for girls who want to have some fun while learning more about current events!

W.I.S.E. (offered both sessions)

Summer WISE covers topics of advanced math, science, and computer science in hands-on and challenging ways!
Girls enrolled in Summer WISE can expect to spend the day taking classes led by Westover faculty members and recent graduates that cover such topics as: web page design, the physics of light, and ecosystems. The Math segment focuses on the technology contained in the Texas Instruments TI-92 graphing calculator. Students will also use the Westover woods and the Westover computer labs to create web pages that integrate field experiments with their very own research site! The week will culminate with students displaying their very own web sites.

BASKETBALL (offered both sessions)
What's all the Hoopla?
Middle school girls can "take time out" this summer to hone their basketball skills at Hoopla - Westover School's Summer Basketball Camp. This camp is a wonderful opportunity for girls entering 7, 8 or 9th grade to work on fundamental offensive and defensive skills. Coached by Westover’s Varsity basketball coach, girls in this session will hone their skills with the aid of current and former Westover Varsity players. Drill sessions, scrimmages, and fundamental skills will be taught.

VOLLEYBALLL (offered both sessions)
Westover is offering its first ever Summer Volleyball camp for girls! The camp will be led by Westover's Varsity Volleyball coach along with returning and graduating Varsity Volleyball players. The girls will focus on the basic skills of the game: passing, hitting, serving, blocking, and setting, and will progress throughout the week to focus on team concepts and play. The girls attending the camp will develop a better understanding of the basics and gain athletic confidence.

SOCCER (offered both sessions)
Energy is a must! Coached by the professional staff from Major League Soccer, this camp session is perfect for the girls who want to hone and develop her soccer skills. Review the basics and try new skill sets. The camp includes drills and scrimmages, and is assisted by current and former Westover Varsity Soccer players. The athletic focus here is on player development, no matter what your skill set.

SQUASH (offered both sessions)
Never played before…or a player looking for serious development? No matter your level of experience, this promises to be an exciting and fun-filled session. All sessions are held in Westover’s brand-new, internationally regulated squash pavilion and coached by Westover’s Varsity Squash Coach. A perfect sport for girls who want to hone their squash skills and build athletic confidence.
