where opportunities are created and the adventures begin
Are you looking for a different approach to outdoor programs? Do you want to challenge yourself or
your kids to boldly go beyond their comfort zones and do things they never thought they could do? The
Shieling Mountain Lodge in the heart of David Thompson Country is home to the Centre for Outdoor
Education; surrounded by pristine wilderness and a spectacular view of the mountains, it makes for an
extraordinary learning environment for people of all ages.
The Centre operates on a year-round basis with an exciting array of programs and activities. The summer
season is host to Mountaineering, Rock-Climbing, Crevasse Ice-Climbing, Kayaking and much more. In the
winter, the focus shifts primarily to snow and ice sports, including Ice-climbing, Telemark &
Cross-Country skiing and Mountaineering.
After a long day of vigorous activities, one can return to the lodge for a home cooked meal and a soak
in the hot tub, on the front porch under a blanket of stars.
People of all ages are welcome, with three major programs running specifically in the summer months.
The first is the “Summer Adventure Camp 2000” for children ages 10-15 years, with an
emphasis on team-building, personal development and confidence building through a week of rewarding and
exhilarating activities, including Kayaking, Mountaineering, Rock-Climbing/Rappelling, Caving,
Ice-climbing and an overnight expedition.
The second is a Leaders in Training program geared towards 14-17 year old kids who become a part of the
Centre family for a four week period, during which they learn all the basics of each activity and
develop their leadership skills through all the incredible summer activities offered. Based out of the
Lodge, the LIT program is always on the go to different destinations in and around the Nordegg area,
and culminates with a one week segment where the LIT’s become the leader of a group.
The third program that is offered is for those 18+ years old, and runs for a six-month period. By far
the most challenging, adventurous and exciting program around, the “Mountain Adventure Skills
Program” hosts a variety of activities based both out of the lodge and the in the surrounding
wilderness. This is a unique program based primarily on experiential learning, encompassing both summer
and winter activities, which prepare participants to be confident leaders in the outdoor field. If you
